Tianzi Mountain: The Sovereign of Peaks, Reigning Over Zhangjiajie’s Skies!
Tianzi Mountain, originally named Qingyan Mountain, earned its regal title from the ancient Tujia leader Xiang Dakun, who led a local peasant uprising and declared himself the “Son of Heaven.” As part of the Wulingyuan Scenic Area, it stretches nearly 40 kilometers from Tianzi Pavilion in the east to General Rock in the west, bordering Zhangjiajie National Forest Park to the south.
On clear days, standing amidst its peaks, you’ll see fluffy white clouds drifting across an azure sky, framed by lush green forests—proof that summer can be breathtakingly beautiful.

Deep within the sea of clouds, Tianzi Mountain stands proudly as the “King of Peak Forests.” Countless towering pinnacles rise from the earth like a magnificent geological masterpiece, carved over hundreds of millions of years. Each peak resembles a warrior, unique in its form, standing tall and independent amidst the forest of stone.
When mist begins to weave through the trees, the peaks fade in and out of view like a dreamy celestial realm from a fantasy tale—ethereal and enchanting. Such scenery inevitably sparks the imagination, evoking legends of mystical fairylands found in ancient stories.
Among its wonders is the “Sky-High Farmland,” located near a Tujia village about two kilometers past Tiger’s Mouth and Lover’s Path, to the right of Tianzi Mountain Villa. Perched over 1,000 meters above sea level, it overlooks a deep, misty valley flanked by sheer cliffs hundreds of meters high.
Atop these cliffs lies a three-hectare terraced slope—verdant fields floating in the sky. Stepping onto this “aerial farmland,” you’re greeted by cool breezes and swirling clouds, as if entering a fairyland. The chirping of birds and the gentle trickle of springs make the experience utterly serene.

The dense trees and vegetation covering the peaks appear tiny in comparison to the towering stone giants. Yet, like emerald cloaks, they drape the mountains in vibrant green, enhancing their cool, elegant beauty in summer.
Whether shrouded in morning mist or bathed in twilight hues, Tianzi Mountain’s peaks never fail to mesmerize with their ever-changing grandeur. Every inch of this landscape sings of nature’s romance and majesty, leaving visitors spellbound—unwilling to depart from such unforgettable beauty.
