Legend I
After the death of Liu Bang, the founding emperor of the Western Han Dynasty (206 BCE–9 CE), his wife, Empress Lü, began purging officials who had helped establish the dynasty. One of them, Zhang Liang, resigned and traveled to famous mountains, eventually settling in Shuirao Simen.
Legend Two
During the Ming Dynasty, the indigenous chiefs of this area, dissatisfied with the rule of the emperor at that time, revolted here and proclaimed themselves emperor.
