Guigu Cliff Path (Ghost Valley Plank Road)

Guiguzi, known as the founder of Warring States–era diplomacy and strategy, is said to have practiced the I Ching and martial arts in a trapezoid-shaped cave halfway up the cliffs of Tianmen Mountain. The cave entrance is surrounded by trees and a thin waterfall that flows outward like drifting mist. According to legend, it was inside this very cave that Guiguzi created the famed “Guigu Arts” and concealed the martial classic Tianmen’s 36 Heavenly Measuring Rules. Because of these stories, the cave later became known as Guigu Cave.

What Is Guigu Cliff Path?

The Guigu Cliff Path is located on the west route of Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park.
It was named after Guigu Cave because the walkway was built directly along the cliffs above the cave.

Starting from Yihong Pass and ending at Xiaotianmen, this man-made walkway is only 1.5 meters wide, with sheer cliffs on one side and a bottomless abyss on the other. The entire path stretches 1,600 meters at an average elevation of 1,400 meters, making it one of the most thrilling experiences on the mountain.

What Is Guigu Cliff Path?

Standing on the cliff path, you may naturally recall the ancient line: “When standing atop the highest peak, all other mountains appear small.” With lush vegetation from the national forest park and dramatic karst formations surrounding you, the scenery often feels like flying in a helicopter above a tropical canyon—something most people only see in movies.

Highlights of Guigu Cliff Path

One of the most exciting features is the Glass Viewing Platform, a 5-meter-long skywalk built directly out of the cliff. With no concrete or metal underneath your feet—only transparent glass—most visitors can’t help but scream as they step onto it.

On misty days, especially before or after rain, clouds swirl around your legs, and waves of fog roll beneath you. Each step feels like walking on clouds—an otherworldly scene often described as “a heavenly realm hidden from the human world.”
