How do you get to Tianzi Mountain?

How do you get to Tianzi Mountain?

There are three routes to visit Tianzi Mountain

Route 1

Take a bus from Zhangjiajie Central Bus Station to Wulingyuan Bus Station (13 RMB). From Wulingyuan Bus Station, walk to the Wulingyuan Entrance (Zhangjiajie National Forest Park Main Gate) and take the free eco-bus. The eco-bus will take you to Ten-Mile Gallery, and from there you can reach the foot of Tianzi Mountain.

Route 2

Also start from Zhangjiajie Central Bus Station, but this time take the bus to the Forest Park Entrance. From there, take the free eco-bus to Ten-Mile Gallery, and finally arrive at the foot of Tianzi Mountain. How to visit Zhangjiajie Forest Park was mentioned earlier, so we won’t repeat it here.

Route 3

From the Wulingyuan Entrance, take the free eco-bus, but this time get off at the Tianzi Mountain Cableway Station.

About Tianzi Mountain and Huangshizhai

If you ask me, which is harder to climb, Huangshizhai or Tianzi Mountain? My answer is definitely Tianzi Mountain. I usually don’t exercise much, but one day I suddenly decided to challenge Tianzi Mountain.

As soon as I started, I was approached by sedan chair carriers asking if I wanted a ride up. I thought to myself: I came here for hiking—what’s the point of being carried up? Besides, how high could Tianzi Mountain really be? But later, I regretted it. The stairways seemed endless. After one steep section came another, again and again. So, for elderly people coming to Zhangjiajie, I would suggest carefully considering whether to climb the steps of Tianzi Mountain.

By the time I was drenched in sweat and nearly exhausted, I actually felt a strange kind of rebirth. With sheer determination, I finally reached the summit. My biggest takeaway? The fun of climbing is not just about the scenery—it’s about challenging yourself. It strengthens the body while training your willpower. And by the way, the air up in the mountains is amazing—full of negative oxygen ions, it feels like your whole body has been cleansed.

But honestly, climbing doesn’t have to be overcomplicated. Those “chicken soup” sayings are optional—take them or leave them. Hiking is just hiking; don’t carry too much mental “baggage.” You can’t really rush the trip and deeply experience nature at the same time. If you slow down, you can quietly feel the mountain breeze, listen to the chirping of insects and birds, watch the rolling mountain ridges in the distance, and truly marvel at the wonders of nature.

Tips

The cableway entrance and the hiking trail entrance are not at the same place.

Tianmen Mountain is located in Yongding District, while Tianzi Mountain is in Wulingyuan District. They are two completely different scenic spots.

Route 1 and Route 2 are more suitable for those who want to hike up the mountain.
